Presenting Series
Look forward to the return of Irish music on the Presenting Series, thanks to Dervish, a band among the all-time greats. And, just in time for you to keep your lucky streak going. As one of the world's most imaginative interpreters of Irish folk music, Dervish has a line-up which includes some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians, fronted by one of the country's best-known singers, Cathy Jordan.
Formed in 1989, Dervish is now a long-established name in Irish music internationally. Renowned for live performances, which match dazzling sets of tunes with stunning interpretations of traditional songs, theirs is a remarkable and at times electric combination "capable of playing with note-perfect accuracy and perfect control at nearly supersonic levels" (Irish Voice, New York).
Their studio and live albums make up one of the outstanding catalogs in Irish music. But Dervish marries technical brilliance with a rare sensibility, born of an understanding of the music and many years of playing together. The six members of Dervish draw their deep musical roots from the traditions of counties Sligo and Leitrim in north-west Ireland. It's an area along the Atlantic coastline, with storied mountains and rural landscapes that have inspired many musicians, artists, and writers, including Nobel Prize-winning poet W. B. Yeats.
