Arriving in cinemas soon after the original Friday the 13th, The Burning touts a cast of future stars and the early work of practical special effects superstar Tom Savini. Further, The Burning really does a lot of the work for which Jason and company get the credit when it comes to consolidating the look and tone of the 1980s slasher genre. For fans of horror, it's a must-see film in the starter deck. The plot, which seems cliche because it created the cliche, unfolds after a cruel prank at a summer camp goes wrong leaving the camp's caretaker, Cropsy, disfigured. As it is want to do, time passes, and five years later a dish of cold revenge is served at the same camp, a perfect offering during the hot summer nights.
