Premiering at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, Teenage Sex and Death a Camp Miasma took home the Queer Palm award. That mix of lofty artscene prestige seems at odds with the genre roots the film is so carefully quoting, loving, and sublimating—as if turning the offal it cuts out of its characters into a Michelin-star dish. Director Jane Schoenburn continues their elevated/surreal horror work seen in We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow with megastars Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (X-Files), with the former playing a young filmmaker trying to reboot a faded slasher franchise with the original final girl from it who is now reclusive (Anderson). Along the way, the movie-within-a-movie is about so many other movies that the bodies pile up next to the piles of bodies past.

One of the cinematic graveyards Schoenbrun mines is Friday the 13th Part 2, the second film in the double feature, which is also the second feature in the iconic (and now faded) horror franchise often cited by many as the best Friday the 13th. Jason is now on the prowl, but literally and figuratively his persona isn't fully fleshed out as the hockey mask is yet to be donned. The result is a tight slasher that uses a machete to both dispatch its characters and clear a path for slasher sequels for an entire generation.

Camp Cinewhack is a capsule festival of campy camp horror films curated by camp counselors Paul Rust and Dr. Anna Wald.
