Who belongs on a college campus? What are the boundaries of a college campus? Once physically on campus, what forces keep folks either inside or outside of the fold? A new signature course taught by Dr. Bettina Spencer at Saint Mary's unpacks these questions while exploring aspects of community and belonging within the context of the student experience, including the impact of race and ethnicity, faith cultures, social media, immigration and migration, and shunning and exclusion. The culmination of the course is this screening of a 60-minute documentary created by the class that explores students' connection to South Bend, their common geographic community.
